A new YouTube video offers a glimpse at major design changes reportedly coming to iOS 19, with visionOS-inspired user interface elements and rounder “squircle” app icons.
Released Monday by Front Page Tech, the video shows re-created renders of the iPhone operating system based on information provided by an unnamed source within Apple.
iOS 19 could introduce rounder squircle app icons and UI elements
Multiple reports suggest Apple will give iOS 19 a visionOS-inspired makeover. Front Page Tech leaker Jon Prosser previously shared a video containing re-created renders of the UI and Lock Screen, showing off the glossy new design with rounded corners.
The leaker’s latest video shows more re-created renders of iOS 19, this time supposedly based on a newer build. Never one to undersell his content, Prosser labeled the video “the biggest iOS leak ever.”
Prosser said the video represents “the most complete build of iOS 19 yet, a version as close to final as you’re going to see before WWDC happens in June.”
Unlike the perfectly circular icons in visionOS, the operating system that powers Apple’s Vision Pro headset, the app icons in Prosser’s latest video show a corner radius of about 30 degrees, giving them a squircle look. Other UI elements in iOS 19 also will use the same corner radius, according to Prosser, with Apple revamping system toggles and animations in line with this change.
The video shows the squarish app icons we’re accustomed to seeing that morph into more rounded versions. Prosser said it’s possible the icon behavior in the version he saw was a glitch. However, if the video proves accurate, Apple will adopt rounder squircle icons and rounded UI elements throughout iOS 19. The change would extend to everything from the Home Screen icons to the Control Center toggles.
“The icons that make it into the final version may, in fact, be circles,” Prosser said. “And either way, I’m sure they’ll all get a face-lift and not just be iOS 18 icons with the corners cut off like an Uncrustable.”
Prosser also pointed out that some Lock Screen elements shimmer based on the iPhone’s movement, enhancing the glossy aesthetic. It’s unclear if the same effect will apply throughout iOS 19.
New design but no major learning curve
As part of iOS 19, Apple purportedly will revamp its system apps to add a pill-shaped bottom tab bar with slick animations. In the Messages app, the search option will shift to the bottom, putting it within easier reach of your thumb.
Despite these visual changes, Prosser says iOS 19 will not introduce a major overhaul. The experience will likely be the same, just fresher and newer.
Apple will unveil its new software systems during its WWDC25 keynote on June 9, so we are just two months away from getting our first official look at iOS 19.
